Catholic University of Leuven

A papal bull by Pope Martinus V in 1425 founded the University of Leuven as Studium Generale. KU Leuven is the oldest of the currently existing Catholic universities globally and is the oldest in Low Countries. In the 16th century, the University of Leuven acquired its worldwide fame thanks to renowned scholars and professors, such as Adriaan van Utrecht (Pope Adrian VI), Erasmus, Vives, Vesalius and Mercator.
KU Leuven established a campus in Kortrijk (KULAK) in West Flanders in 1965 to realize bachelor education for four departments. Declercq studied Physics at KULAK, Kortrijk, followed by KUL, Leuven.
